January 5, 2010 Barrow's Goldeneyes still on the Rideau River.

If you need Barrow's Goldeneye for a "lifer" nows the time to head to the Rideau River. With the present ice conditions along the river the goldeneyes are easy to see either from the rideau Tennis Club or off Strathcona Park. There are 2 males and 1 female feeding in the open water along with a number of Common Goldeneye. These birds have been present since early in December but now are restricted to a smaller area due to ice. Good Luck! Bruce

Directions: From Ottawa take 417 east to the Vanier Parkway and exit north. Follow parkway to Donald Street and turn left (west) and continue to Rideau Tennis Club/Rideau River.
