May 13, 2010 Pelee birding in the rain!

Another rain day but we were able to get a few hours in before the sky opened and the rain started. Most of yesterdays birds were still present with Tilden's Woods being very active with a variety of warblers. Once the rain set in the Visitors Centre was packed with wet birders waiting for the rain to stop. by early afternoon the sun started to shine and bird and birder activity was on the rise. Overall, no much change from yesterday but more Bay-breasted, Canada, Wilson, Tennessee, and Blackburnian Warblers. The flooded fields just outside the park attracted a number of shorebirds including White-rumped Sandpiper, Dunlin, Short-billed Dowitcher, Solitary Sandpiper and both Black-bellied and Semipalmated Plover. The highlight was an adult Franklin's Gull resting in the field with Ring-billed and Herring Gulls. Tomorrow forecast is looking good but don't hold your breath!
