September 30, 2010 Birding Radisson Lake area.

Our first stop of the day was at Raddison Lake just west of Saskatoon. As with most lakes there was a great assortment of water birds. A large concentration of Snow Geese were resting on the lake along with a good selection of diving ducks which included Ruddy Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Lesser Scaup and Ring-necked Duck, Redhead, and Canvasback. A big surprise again were 2 Barrow's Goldeneye. This species is a rare but regular visitor to Saskatchewan. There was lots of eagle activity and a few flocks of tundra Swans were observed on the lake. We spent the rest of the day birding many of the back roads and travel down to Eagle Creek Regional Park and than over to the Rice Lake area. Another great day birding in Saskatchewan!

It was hard to miss Snow Geese for the day list, they were almost on ever lake or slough.

There were miles of fields with hay bails.

With the unusual wet summer and early fall many fields had not been cut or taken in yet.

Our only Pronghorns for the trip put on a great show.

The Pronghorn Antelope is the fastest land animal in North America and can reach speeds of 90 kms. an hour.

Old homesteads were everywhere in central Saskatchewan.

A bull Moose was a surprise in the open farm fields.

This animal was very cooperative and walk across the road giving us excellent views.
